Word cloud

Live word cloud: the whole room answers in one word, joining by QR code

A Pomlet word cloud collects short answers from everyone at once. Participants join with a PIN or QR code, type up to 10 words on their phone, and the words that come up most often appear larger on the shared screen. It is a fast way to open a meeting, check what a class remembers or capture the mood of an event, and it sits alongside quizzes, polls and whiteboards in the same session.

No card required · Free for up to 8 participants per session

How it works

  1. Ask an open prompt

Add a word cloud to a session and write a short question, such as “One word to describe this week?”.

  2. Choose the number of words

Allow 1 to 10 words per participant. Three is a good default for a lively cloud.

  3. Invite the room

Show the PIN or QR code. Participants answer from any browser, without an app or an account.

  4. Reveal and discuss

Show the results: repeated words grow larger, so shared themes are visible at a glance.

Why use Pomlet for word clouds

Readable on a big screen

Each entry keeps one word of up to 40 characters, so the cloud stays clear even with a large group.

Up to 1,000 participants

Free covers up to 8 participants per session; Pro supports up to 1,000 at the same time.

Part of a complete session

Combine the word cloud with polls, scales, quiz questions, idea boards, slides and a collaborative whiteboard.

No pressure

Word clouds are never scored, and they do not eliminate anyone in elimination mode.

Kept after the session

Every response stays in the session report, so you can come back to what the group said.

Word cloud prompts to try

  • Icebreaker: “One word for how you arrive today?”
  • Lesson recap: “Which term from today do you want to remember?”
  • Retrospective: “One word for this sprint?”
  • Event opening: “What are you most curious about today?”
  • Training needs: “Which topic should we go deeper on?”
  • Brainstorm warm-up: “First word that comes to mind for our new project?”

Tips for a useful word cloud

  • Ask for one idea at a time: precise prompts produce clearer clouds.
  • Read the cloud aloud and ask two or three people to explain a word.
  • Follow up with an idea board or a poll to turn the main words into decisions.
  • For sensitive topics, remind the room that every word appears on the shared screen.
