Music quiz

Music quiz maker: build a blind test with your own audio excerpts

Pomlet lets you build a music quiz, also called a blind test or name-that-tune game, from your own audio files. Upload a track, choose the excerpt, and the clip plays on the host screen while players answer on their phones, so the room hears one clean sound. Combine audio questions with images, team play, elimination mode and leaderboards, or start from the ready-made classical music and nursery rhyme quizzes.

No card required · Free for up to 8 participants per session

How it works

  1. Upload your audio

Add an audio file of up to 20 MB, or a video of up to 30 MB, to a question.

  2. Choose the excerpt

Set the start and end of the clip (up to 120 seconds), add a fade-in and fade-out, and let the answer timer follow the music.

  3. Write the answers

Use multiple choice, true or false, or an open answer that tolerates spelling differences in titles and artists.

  4. Play it live

Launch live, in teams or in elimination mode. The music plays on the host screen; phones stay silent and are used to answer.

Built for music rounds

One sound source

In host-paced games, audio plays only on the main screen, which avoids dozens of unsynchronized phones.

Precise excerpts

Start, end, fade-in, fade-out and an apply-to-all shortcut keep every round consistent.

Answers that tolerate spelling

Open answers tolerate differences in capitals, accents and punctuation, missing articles such as “the” and small typos. Add accepted variants, or review answers as host to confirm borderline ones.

Teams and elimination

Play in teams with a team leaderboard, or knock players out on a wrong answer while they keep watching.

Ready-made rounds

Start from the classical music quiz or the nursery rhyme quiz, each with ten playable excerpts.

Up to 1,000 players

Free covers up to 8 players per session; Pro supports up to 1,000.

Music quiz ideas

  • Wedding or birthday: songs that tell the story of the couple or the guest of honour.
  • Office party: one round per decade with a team leaderboard.
  • Classroom: recognize instruments, composers or musical periods.
  • Children’s party: nursery rhymes and well-known melodies.
  • Senior centre afternoon: well-loved songs and evergreens to recognize together.
  • Language class: find the missing word from a chorus.
  • Film night: recognize a soundtrack from a ten-second excerpt.

Tips for a smooth blind test

  • Keep excerpts short: 10 to 20 seconds is usually enough to recognize a track.
  • Test the sound system in the room before guests arrive.
  • Use open answers with accepted variants for titles that are often misspelled.
  • Play music you have the right to use; a public event may need a performance licence depending on your country.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Spotify, Deezer or YouTube?+

No. Pomlet plays audio and video files that you upload, so you choose the exact excerpt and the room hears it from the host screen. Streaming links are not supported.

Can players hear the music on their phone?+

No. In live, team and elimination games, the excerpt plays on the host screen only. Phones stay silent and show the answer buttons.

Which files can I use?+

Audio files up to 20 MB and video files up to 30 MB. Each question can play an excerpt of up to 120 seconds.

Can I run a music quiz in self-paced mode?+

Not with host-played media: practice mode cannot synchronize audio across players. Use live, team or elimination mode for music rounds.

Is it free?+

Yes, for up to 8 players per session on the Free plan. Pro supports up to 1,000 players.
