1. Reserve access before your event
Reserve a reusable PIN and QR code before launch for 7 or 30 days. Sessions started during that period use the same code.
Open the session settings
In the editor, open the general settings and enable Prepare this session in advance. This reserves a PIN for this quiz; it does not start a game.
Choose 7 or 30 days
Check the “until…” date below the duration: it must cover your event. The reservation starts now, not on the day of the event.
Keep the link, PIN and QR code
They all lead to the same prepared session. Click the QR code to enlarge it, then save the image from your browser or take a clear screenshot for your printed material. Include pomlet.com/join and the PIN as text too.
Real example
Example: a QR code on wedding tables
The wedding is in three weeks. Reserve the PIN for 30 days before printing the menus. Put the QR code on each table with a short instruction: “Scan when the host asks you to”. Test a printed copy with a phone: contrast, size and sharpness matter.
You can keep editing the questions in the same quiz. Save the final changes before launching on the wedding day. A duplicate is a different quiz: do not assume it inherits the printed PIN.
What guests see before launch
While no session is open on the reserved PIN, the join page asks guests to wait for it to open. Scanning does not start the questions or countdown.
When you open a live session, participants can join the lobby. You decide when to start the quiz. Launching a self-paced session instead opens the individual activity until its chosen deadline.
Good to know
What if I launch another session beforehand?
The QR code and PIN do not change at each launch while the reservation is valid. A real rehearsal of this quiz also uses the printed code. Anyone who scans it during that rehearsal can join: the code cannot tell a rehearsal from the big day.
To rehearse on your own, use Test in the editor with simulated participants. If you open a real session, end it before the next launch. Two different sessions cannot run at the same time on one prepared PIN.
A session is already running on this PIN
Pomlet offers to resume the existing session or, if you have permission, stop it. Resuming keeps its progress; it does not start over.
Stopping a prepared live session sends players back to waiting and saves answers in a report if a question has been played. The next launch starts from scratch. For a self-paced session, open its follow-up or close it; closing removes participant access.
Edits in the editor apply to future launches: the running session keeps the content loaded at launch. Stop and relaunch if you need to use a corrected version.
Remember
Extend the reservation without changing the code
Before expiry, return to Prepare this session in advance and choose 7 or 30 days again. The new period starts then and keeps the PIN that is still valid. Check the new date shown.
After expiry or deactivation, the old code is no longer guaranteed. Enabling the option again can assign a different PIN. If you already printed your material, keep the reservation active and renew before it expires. Do not switch it off to extend it.
The PIN reservation and the deadline of a self-paced assignment are separate settings: extending one does not automatically extend the other.
Your event-day checklist
- Open the quiz with the printed PIN and check the reservation is valid.
- Save your changes and test the sound and venue connection.
- Check that no real rehearsal is still running on this PIN.
- Open the right mode and scan a printed copy before welcoming everyone.
- Keep the host tab open and start questions when everyone is ready.
